Build Service - Team Foundation Server 2010

To open the Team Foundation Server Configuration tool from the Start menu

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010, and then click Team Foundation Administration Console. The Team Foundation Administration Console appears.
  2. Click Build Configuration, and then click Configure Installed Features. The Team Foundation Server Configuration tool appears.

To configure Team Foundation Build Service

  1. Click Configure Team Foundation Build Service, and then click Start Wizard. The Build Service Configuration wizard appears.
  2. Read the Welcome screen, and then click Next.
  3. Perform one of the following steps, and click Next:
    • Click Browse, and click the team project collection to which you want this build controller to connect.
    • Click Clear to skip setting up a build controller on this instance of Team Foundation Build Service.
  4. Perform one of the following steps, and then click Next:
    • Click Use the default setting, and specify the number of build agents. If you installed Team Foundation Build Service on the same server as Team Foundation Server, the default setting for Number of build agents to run on this build machine is 1 (recommended).
    • Click Scale out build services, and then specify the number of build agents and a build controller. If you installed Team Foundation Build Service on its own server, the default setting for Number of build agents to run on this build machine is equal to the number of processor cores on this server.
    • Click Replace an existing build machine, and then specify the build machine to replace.
    • Click Configure later or Configure later or use with Team Foundation Lab Management to skip setting up any build controllers or agents on this instance of Team Foundation Build Service.
  5. Under Run Team Foundation Build Service as, perform one of the following steps:
    • Click Use a system account, and then click a system account. For example, click NT Authority\Network Service to use Network Service.
    • Click Use a user account to use a domain or local account, and then type the account name and password. To test the user account and password, click Test. Network Service is the default value for the service account (TFSBUILD).
  6. Under Accept connections from Team Foundation Server on, perform one of the following steps, and then click Next:
    • Click Default port 9191 to accept the default setting.
    • Click Port Number to enter a custom port.
  7. Click Next. Review the information. You can use the Properties links to open dialog boxes that allow you to inspect or change configurations for any build controllers or build agents that you have setup.
  8. The wizard validates your configuration.
  9. Click Configure. The wizard applies configuration settings.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Close.
  12. Click Close.

TFS 2010

Build Configuration for TFS 2010

  • Open VSTS 2010
  • Select Project Name
  • Right Click on the Builds in Team Explorer

  • Select Manage Build Controllers
  • And then select controller for build

  • Select General Option and type your build name

  • Select Second one option for TRIGGER
  • Edit the build definition in Team Explorer, go to the Trigger tab and select Scheduled. Then you can set the time that you want your build to run
  • By default this is manual which the option we will use in.

  • And choose your option  for build- Manual/Auto
  • And then select Workspace-

  • Select Source Control Panel and Build Agent drop folder
  • Build Defaults for project

  • You can edit the build number and format-

  • And then save
  • Run the Build which you have create and see wait for complete-

  • And see the logs as when its finish
  • Check your drop location folder for published code

Email Alert Settings in Team Foundation Server 2010

Objective
Microsoft Team Foundation Server is the great utility used by thousands of the developers and organizations throughout the world for development collaboration file management and build automations. In this blog we will learn how to configure Email Alert for check-in, checkout, build status (failed, succeeded) etc.

Requirements
Properly configured and running Microsoft Team Foundation Server.
Properly configured and running SMTP server i.e. SMTP.YOURDOMAIN.COM.
Valid Email address for receiving the alerts. 

Configuration Steps

  • Open Team Foundation Server 2010 Console
  • Select Application Tier

 

  • And Then Email Alert Settings

  • Open VSTS 2010 and then select Team Project
  • Right click on the project and go to project alert
  • Select on which task you need email alert and then select type your email account where you want emails

Required Permissions:

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the Team Foundation application-tier server.

Change the SMTP Server for sending email alerts

  1. On the application-tier server for Team Foundation, locate the installation directory for the application tier.
  2. Open the Web Services directory, and then open the Services subdirectory.
  3. In a text or XML editor, open the Web.Config file, and locate the <add key="smtpServer"> element.
  4. Update the element by typing the fully qualified domain name of the SMTP server. For example, type the following string
    1. <add key="smtpServer" value="SMTPServerLocation" />
  5. Save and close the Web.Config file.

You must close and restart the Web services application for Team Foundation before your changes will take effect.

Change the sender email address for email alerts

  1. On the application-tier server for Team Foundation, locate the installation directory for the application tier.
  2. Open the Web Services directory, and then open the Services subdirectory.
  3. In a text or XML editor, open the Web.Config file, and locate the <add key="emailNotificationFromAddress"> element.
  4. Update the element by typing the e-mail address that is associated with the service account (for example, Domain/TFSService). that is used for the application pool identity for Team Foundation. For example, type the following string:
    <add key="emailNotificationFromAddress" value="TFS@yourdomainname.com" />
  5. Save and close the file.

 You must close and restart the Web services application for Team Foundation before your changes will take effect.
